Manage Your Identity on Google Maps
Google recently added the ability to edit your company’s information on Google Maps. Since the accuracy of this information could be very important to your business, you should take the time to ensure that the information is correct. Here’s how:
1. Find your company on www.google.com/maps
This can be done by searching Google maps for your company name along with your city and state (e.g. “villing & company, south bend, indiana”).
2. Click on the marker that represents your company.
The lettered markers correspond to the search results. Clicking on the marker will bring up a detailed information box of the address. For businesses with multiple locations, you’ll have to do each location separately.
3. Click “Edit” near the bottom of the information box.
You’ll have to sign in with a Google account in order to make edits. This could be your Gmail account, your Google AdWords or Analytics account or any other account you have with Google.
4. Make your changes.
Here you can edit information including the address, phone, web site and “type of place” information. You can also move the marker to make it more accurate or even remove old locations altogether.
That’s all there is to it. For more significant changes, there may be a delay, and if you want to modify your entry even further, you can walk through the process of claiming your business. By making sure this information is accurate, you can make it easier for customers to find your business using Google Maps.
